LAHORE:

The Education Department informed the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday that show-cause notices had been issued to 77 private schools for collecting fees for three months of summer vacations.

Executive District Officer Pervez Akhtar informed the court that registration of schools who failed to submit satisfactory replies could be cancelled.

He said that advertisements had been placed in newspapers to inform parents that a directive had been issued against collection of fees for summer vacations.

He said the department had taken action against the 77 schools after it received complaints from parents.

An additional advocate general told the court that the draft of Punjab Education Bill was being finalised.

The court adjourned the hearing till June 17 and directed the EDO to inform it about the action being taken against schools for violating the instructions.

Advocate Sheeba Qaisar had earlier filed a petition, stating that private schools were violating a government directive on the subject and asking parents to pay up front fees for the three months of summer vacations.
