KARACHI: Sindh government on Monday imposed a three-day ban on pillion riding following an attack on a polio team in the city.

The ban will remain in effect from Tuesday through Thursday.

The decision to impose the ban was taken after armed motorcyclist opened fire at a polio team near Banaras Chowk in Orangi Town, Karachi, injuring a police officer.

“Two gunmen opened fire at the policeman who was on duty to guard the vaccinators,” Ali Asif, a senior police official in the area, told AFP, adding that the vaccination campaign in the area had now been postponed.

The policeman was critically injured after a bullet passed through his skull, Doctor Mohammad Abid in the city’s Abbasi Shaheed hospital told AFP.
