Emraan Hashmi has absolutely nailed the look of former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin in upcoming film Azhar.
According to The Hindustan Times, the film will encompass Azhar’s entire life, from when he was 17 to his ascent as the captain of the Indian cricket team, and will extensively cover the match-fixing controversies that darkened the later years of his career.
Speaking about his role in the movie at the launch of the film’s poster, Emraan Hashmi said, “I am an average gully cricketer. But when Azhar bhai came and taught me, I realised I had lot to learn in cricket. Hopefully I have got better over the last three months.”
Emraan further shared how excited he was to play the role of one of the most controversial captains in Indian cricketing history. “In school time we were passionate about cricket. Everyone had started putting their collars up due to some reasons and there is only one man to be blamed for it, Azhar bhai. And 20 years after I get a call from Ekta Kapoor saying they are planning a movie on the life and times of Mohammad Azharuddin. It was the best day of my life.”
Azhar has been directed by Tony D’Souza, and is set to hit theatres on May 13, 2016.
