Peshawar Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) representatives have expressed concerns over the lack of awareness among doctors on the health legislation recently introduced by the government.
Addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, PGMI General Secretary Dr Musa Kaleem said the new act was passed without taking any of the stakeholders on board. He added the minister and secretary health promised they would consult all stakeholders before making these rules and regulations.
The general secretary said their complaint has been lodged with the health department and its minister. Kaleem added, “The government has once again ignored doctors and this is unacceptable, especially as the new laws do not favour patients or medical professionals.”
He added in March 2014, the government notified doctors that all stakeholders would be taken into confidence over any changes in the health sector. In light of the same notification, the medical fraternity submitted its reservations on March 12, 2015, however, the health department has yet to reply. Dr Attaullah Arif, Dr Mir Ali Sher and other PGMI members also requested the provincial government and health department to concentrate on laws governing health so the medical fraternity was better informed.
