KARACHI: Top seed Nasir Iqbal won his second successive PSA $15,000 event as he beat Aamir Atlas Khan 2-0 in the final of the FMC International tournament in Lahore on Monday.

The match turned out to be a mismatch surprisingly as the defending Asian champion was unable to match Nasir’s form, who  was leading 11-8, 11-4 before Aamir pulled out of the match apparently due to an injury.

“I’m really happy to have built on my previous title and this will certainly help me improve my Professional Squash Association [PSA] ranking,” Nasir told The Express Tribune.

“I had slipped out of the top 50, but these two titles will earn me around 500 points and allow me to be at 41st or 42nd in the new PSA rankings. It’s important to go into a big tournament with momentum on your back and I’m lucky that I’m in form. My confidence is really high now.”

Meanwhile, Aamir has been overlooked by the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) for the upcoming Asian Individual Squash Championship in Kuwait as he failed to appear for the trials, saying it was an insult considering he was the defending champion.

However, the recent result would have pleased the PSF as they now stand corrected, given Aamir’s breakdown ahead of the mega event.

Nasir, Farhan Zaman, Danish Atlas and Tayyab Aslam will be representing Pakistan at the Asian event.
