Suspected swine flu patient dies in Lahore

LAHORE: A 57-year-old man died in Lahore on Tuesday after allegedly contracting swine flu, Express News reported.

According to Punjab Secretary Health Jawad Rafique Mulk, the deceased, Altaf Hussain Shirazi, was a resident of Sargodha and was undergoing treatment in Lahore.

“A case has been registered against hospital authorities over a delay in issuing a report on his medical condition. It has been sent to the Department of International Health,” Mulk said.

He added that the authorities have sought help from the organisation.

As a precautionary measure, bloods samples of the hospital staff as well as the family of deceased were collected for tests.

Since mid-December, almost 700 people in India have died following a swine flu outbreak, BBC reported. Officials had a tough time controlling the deadly outbreak.

The number of cases has doubled since the epidemic erupted in December to almost 11,000 in India.
