Sindh open: Golfers brace for tough competition

KARACHI: Fresh from participating in the CNS Open and Jashan-e-Azadi Open, top national golfers gear up for the 54-hole Coca Cola Sindh Open Golf Championship that tees off today at the Arabian Sea Country Club (ASCC) on the outskirts of Karachi.

The three-day event carries a lucrative purse of Rs3 million, including Rs2.3m for professionals, Rs500,000 for senior professionals and Rs200,000 for junior professionals. A Suzuki Swift is also up for grabs for whoever secures a hole-in-one.

Shabbir Iqbal is the defending champion, having won last year’s edition thanks to his 13-under-par 203.

Golf championship: Masih leads day two at seven under-par

“I will be looking forward to defending my title,” said Shabbir. “This could be the toughest of the three tournaments recently held in Karachi and will decide the country’s top golfer.”
