The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has told the Supreme Court that two detained men under the notorious missing persons’ category died of cardiac problems last year.
One of the suspects, Hidayatullah Khan, died on August 20, 2014, while the other, Muhammad Ibrahim, died on October 16 last year, the K-P additional advocate general (AAG) told the three-judge apex court bench, headed by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, while submitting a medical report on Tuesday.
Asma Jahangir, the counsel for the families of the two men, had claimed the internees were tortured by the authorities. Ibrahim was picked up by army personnel in 2010.
The same bench rejected Jahangir’s plea to transfer the case to another bench after a heated argument.
In the courtroom, the lawyer had commented that people did not come to the courts to listen to lectures, adding that she had been waiting to argue her case since morning.
