KARACHI: A district and sessions court sentenced on Saturday a man to eight years in prison after convicting him of robbing a person near the airport around two years ago.
Nasir Ahmed was found guilty of looting a man at gunpoint within the remits of Airport police station in 2014. According to the prosecution, the accused, along with his absconding accomplices, was snatching cash and other valuables from the victim when the police arrived at the scene. A gunfight ensued between the robbers and the law enforcers. Afterwards, Ahmed was caught injured while his accomplices managed to flee.
The accused pleaded not guilty of the offence at the time he was framed of the charges. However, he could not bring on record any witness or evidence in his defence. He maintained that police falsely implicated him in the case over nonpayment of a bribe. Malir additional district and sessions judge observed that the prosecution established its case against the accused. The judge awarded the suspect eight years of imprisonment.
