JHANG/MULTAN: Five people died and 10 others were injured in a road accident on Jhang-Khushab Road on Tuesday.
Rescue-1122 officials told journalists 15 people from Wan Bhacharan (Johar Abad) were travelling from Hazrat Sultan Bahu’s shrine in a mini truck which collided with a truck near Mari Shah Sakhira.
Five people, Khurram Shahzad, his mother Nasrin Bibi, Saadia, Maryam Bibi and Hayat Bibi, died on the spot and 10 others were injured.
Rescue-1122 officials took the injured passengers – Fatima, Shakila, Dua Fatima, Asim Waqas, Muhammad Shoaib, Nasim Bibi, Shamim Bibi, Nasrin Akhtar and two others – to the District Headquarters Hospital and other hospitals nearby.
Collision course
In Multan, six people were critically injured in a collision between a Mazda vehicle and a locomotive near Seetal Mari Prison in Multan on Tuesday.
Rescue-1122 officials took those injured to Nishtar Hospital. They said three of those injured had lost their legs in the accident. They were identified as 22-year-old, Ali Shan, son of Abdul Jabbar, 17-year-old Abdul Rehman, son of Haibat Khan, and 26-year-old Nadeem, son of Kashif.
Police said an FIR had been registered against the gate keeper of the Seetal Mari police station railway crossing. Police said action would be taken against the gate keeper.
They said that the gate keeper had apparently tried to close the main gate when the Jafar Express, en-route from Lahore to Quetta, was about to reach New City Station. He could not shut it because of heavy traffic. Police said when train arrived at the crossing it collided with a Mazda vehicle which had tried to pass through the gate seconds before the train arrived. Police said then the Mazda vehicle collided with a motorcycle rickshaw in which three friends Ali Shan, Abdur Rahman and Nadeem were travelling. Rescue-1122 officials said that the legs of the three boys were crushed.
Doctors at Nishtar Hospital said the condition of three of those injured was critical condition.
The families of those injured staged a protest demonstration against railway staff at the New City police station. They blamed the accident on the gatekeeper and shouted slogans against him. The protesters demanded strict action against him.
