KARACHI: Muhammad Munir of the Islamabad Golf Club clinched the Pakistan Open after the final round of the 43rd Pakistan Open Golf Championship concluded on Sunday at the Airmen Golf Course in Karachi.
Munir hit three birdies and a bogie on the fourth day to finish the round on two-under-par 70 and the championship at an aggregate score of 10-under-par 278 with Garrison Club’s Matloob Ahmed, who scored five birdies and three bogies in the final round to card a two-under-par 70, finished one stroke behind on nine-under-par 279.
Another strong competitor, Shahid Javed Khan of the Royal Palm Golf Club, also recorded a score of two-under-par 70 in the final round to finish on four-under-par 284 and secure third place, while defending champion Muhammad Nazir, brother of Munir, played some lose strokes in the final few holes to finish fourth with an aggregate score of three-under-par 285.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s top golfer Muhammad Shabbir Iqbal regained his form in the final round to record the best figures of the day with a five-under-par 67 but finished 10th in the championship with an aggregate score of two-over-par 290.
In the senior’s professional category, Pakistan Railway’s Imdad Hussain bagged the title after recording scores of one-over-par 73 and two-over-par 74 in the first and second round respectively to finish on an aggregate score of three-over-par 147. Imdad was followed by Karachi Golf Club’s Ghani Khan, who finished on five-over-par 149, while Rawalpindi’s Abdul Ghaffar finished third with a score of six-over-par 150.
At the amateur’s event, Ghazanfar Mehmood of the Bahria Golf Club finished with an aggregate score of five-over-par 293 followed by Sajid Khan with a score of eight-over-par 296, while Zohaib Asif finished third with an aggregate score of nine-over-par 297.
