Unlike its counterpart organisations, such as Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), the Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) increased its admission and out-patient department (OPD) fees. After a collective decision taken by the board of governors, the HMC administration increased OPD fees from Rs10 to Rs20. The administration also increased admission fees from Rs100 to Rs150.
HMC public relations officer Tauheed Zulfiqar said, “The hospital is autonomous and generates its own expenses. For this reason, the hospital administration increased OPD and admission charges.”
In contrast, LRH public relations officer Jamil Shah said, “No. The administration has not taken any decision in this regard nor has the issue been discussed in any meeting as for now.”
Officials at Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) stated the administration was likely to increase their fees, however, the decision is still pending. KTH public relations officer Farhad Khan could not be reached despite multiple attempts.
