MANSEHRA: An outpour of outrage continued against Dr Shoaib who was caught sexually harassing women patients on video.
The City police on Saturday registered a criminal case against the 53-year-old medical officer of King Abdullah Teaching Hospital. The complainant, Sohail, obtained the footage recorded on a secret camera installed in Shoaib’s room. According to local sources, camera was installed without the doctor’s knowledge after it was suspected he was harassing patients. At least 25 clips were recorded. Enraged protesters, including local government representatives, demonstrated for two consecutive days and demanded the arrest of the doctor. The police sealed his private clinic, but the suspect managed to obtain transit bail from the court of Abbottabad additional district judge Jehangir Khan, which is valid till October 22.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, district councillor Colonel (retd) Ilyas and tehsil councilors Omar Farooq, Raja Ayaz and Abrar Shah said the suspect had ruined the sanctity of the medical profession. He said it would now be difficult for women to trust health care professionals.
They said the video clips suggest the suspect had been involved in such activities for a long time. The speakers demanded a ban on his practice and his expulsion from the district. Oghi councillor Haji Ghulam Rabbani demanded the PMDC immediately cancel his membership and ban him for life.
