QUETTA:

Director General of Livestock Balochistan Ghulam Hussain Jaffer said that the provincial authorities are unable to control smuggling of cattle to the neighbouring countries because the federal government still holds on to the permit to export livestock.

“Despite devolution of powers to the provinces under the 18th Amendment, the federal government is yet to give power to the province for exporting cattle,” he told The Express Tribune.

There is a huge shortage of sacrificial animals in Quetta and nearby districts after a sudden surge in cattle smuggling.

Many people lodged their complaints about the hike in the prices and shortage of animals in the provincial capital.

Jaffer said that after the 18th Amendment the powers of exporting cattle are still with the Ministry of Commerce in the federal government which is cause of the huge smuggling.
