FAISALABAD: As many as 1.3 million children in Faisalabad will be vaccinated against polio in a three-day drive starting on September 14, DCO Noorul Amin Mengal said on Saturday. He was talking to newsmen at the inauguration ceremony of the vaccination campaign at the Children’s Hospital on Jhang Road. The DCO personally administered the vaccine to some children. Health EDO Waqar Sadiq, Children’s Hospital MS Khalid Fakhar and Hilal-i-Ahmar Hospital MS Mukhtar Randawa were also present. The DCO urged Health Department workers to ensure success of the drive. “The campaign must be extended if any child is missed in the drive,” he said. The DCO said vaccination teams should be present at bus stands, the railway station, the airport, the motorway interchange and entrances of the city. He said announcements should be made from mosques to signal arrival of the vaccination teams in neighbourhoods. “Parents should be sensitised about the importance of vaccinating their children against polio,” the DCO said. Mengal said the children who had been covered in previous drives should be given the vaccine again. He urged parents and teachers to cooperate with the government in the drive. The DCO was told that 2,846 teams had been formed to administer drops to children in Faisalabad.
