Unprecedented failure

KHUZDAR: Balochistan is the only province that is facing multidimensional crises, be it its poor economy, law and order, health or education.

Recently, the education board of Balochistan announced the results of the intermediate exams, which stunned students. Only 26.7 per cent of students had passed: out of 26,883 candidates who appeared in the exams, only 7,710 candidates were declared successful. The rest of the students who had at least successfully finished the exams, will not be able to apply for entrance tests due to their low, unsatisfactory percentages and all their efforts will go in vain.

This unprecedented failure in the Balochistan intermediate exams merely depicts and exposes the ineptness and inefficiency of the educational infrastructure of the province. According to a survey conducted by the education department, there are approximately 3,500 ghost schools and colleges in the province. The more alarming fact is that the remaining schools don’t have basic amenities such as toilets, electricity, drinking water and boundary walls.

If the government doesn’t pay heed to the education sector, there is no doubt that it will have to face grave consequences. I urge the government of Balochistan to have the papers rechecked, and help reform the province’s deserted schools and colleges.
