Auto-thieves: Police claim two gangs busted

ISLAMABAD: 

Islamabad Police on Thursday claimed to have busted to car-lifting gangs in the capital. 

In the first incident, the police arrested three Afghan nationals after an encounter in the limits of Sabzi Mandi on Thursday. A police spokesperson said that gang was wanted in several auto-theft cases. The suspects were identified as Nabi Ullah, Zareef and Nawab, all Afghan nationals.

Police said the suspects confessed to their involvement in car-theft incidents during the preliminary investigation.

The spokesperson said that when police intercepted a car with registration number DD-447 on the IJ Principal Road the occupants opened fire on the police. They were, however, overpowered and arrested.

Meanwhile, another police team arrested five persons for hiring cars and selling them on in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. They were identified as Ameen, Sajid, Khalid Jangi, Yahya Khan and Khalid.

The police also recovered a Toyota Hiace bearing registration number LES-2288 from the suspects. The vehicle had been hired from a dealer in G-9 Markaz.
